Introduction
Dale supports clients with the structuring, development, financing, operation, acquisition and disposal of energy, resources and infrastructure projects.
His practice spans conventional energy (gas), renewables (solar, wind and hydro), energy storage (batteries and pumped hydro), lateral infrastructure (gas, water, electricity), digital infrastructure, hybrid power systems, hydrogen, future fuel, circular economy and other low emissions projects, across grid connected, behind the meter and remote applications.
Dale's experience extends to all aspects of the project development lifecycle. This includes project structuring, joint development and development services structures, due diligence, energy regulation, grid connection, network and transportation, energy procurement (retail and wholesale), PPA/offtake and hedging arrangements (physical, financial and synthetic) and other major commercial contracts.
Dale also has significant "in-house" experience, having completed secondments with leading Australian gentailer and CS Energy in Australia and having worked for Lightsource bp and UK Power Networks in Europe.
Project development
- Lightsource bp | Advised on various projects, including the development of Woolooga BESS (co-located with existing Woolooga solar farm) and Lower Wonga Hybrid solar / BESS project in Qld.
- Shell Energy | Advised on arrangements for the Wallerawang 9 BESS (at repurposed coal fired power station site) in NSW.
- Carbon Logica | Advised on the development of the Ironbark Mine waste coal mine gas project (the first project since the safeguard mechanism was introduced) and the Centurion waste coal mine gas project in Qld.
- AMPYR Australia | Advised on the development and financing of the Bulabul BESS (formerly Wellington BESS) in NSW.
- Confidential | Advised various mining clients on the development of remote hybrid solar/wind/BESS/hydro/conventional energy (gas / diesel) power systems in Qld and PNG.
- ACE Power | Advised on the development of a portfolio of solar, BESS and Hybrid solar / BESS projects in Queensland and Victoria.
Offtake
- Vena Energy | Advised on its A$200 million revenue share agreement with InCommodities for their Bellambi Heights BESS.
- Snowy Hydro | Advised on its two virtual tolling agreements (VTA) with Elaine BESS (the largest 4-hour VTA in the NEM) and Golden Plains BESS.
- Akaysha Energy | Advised on its innovative offtake arrangements for Orana BESS (the first banked VTA (layered with a firming LTESA)).
- Rio Tinto | Advised on its renewable energy procurement process in Queensland, including their PPA with the Bungaban wind farm (Qld) - the largest corporate renewables PPA in Australia history.
- Pacific Green | Advised on its innovative offtake arrangements with Re2 Capital.
- Government support contracts | Advised on all forms of government revenue contracts, including ACT, Victorian VRET, NSW LTESA, South Australian FERMA and CISAs in the NEM and WEM (including for successful bidders Ark Energy, Trina Solar, Eku Energy, Akaysha Energy and Lightsource bp).
