William Malley

Global Co-CEO and Partner

Washington DC

Introduction

Bill serves as Global Co-CEO of Ashurst Perkins Coie, leading the firm alongside Paul Jenkins.

Together, Bill Malley and Paul Jenkins are focused on building a global firm with the scale, sector depth, and technological leadership to meet clients' increasingly complex cross-border needs and to deliver trusted legal guidance seamlessly across jurisdictions. The firm brings together approximately 3,000 lawyers across more than 50 offices worldwide, with flagship hubs in Seattle, London, Sydney, and New York, and deep sector strength in technology, energy and infrastructure, and financial services.

Bill brings to this role a proven record of law firm leadership, having served as Managing Partner of Perkins Coie from July 1, 2019, through its combination with Ashurst. His tenure as Managing Partner was marked by historic growth: the firm opened new offices in Austin and London, doubled its presence in New York, and made sustained investments in key practice areas, including Emerging Companies & Venture Capital, Patent Litigation, Private Equity,  M&A, and White Collar and Securities Litigation—all while achieving record financial performance, while rising in many industry rankings and earning accolades for client service, pro bono, diversity and inclusion, and workplace culture. That track record now informs his leadership of Ashurst Perkins Coie on a global scale.

Earlier in his career, Bill spent more than 25 years practicing at the intersection of environmental law and transportation, advising clients on complex regulatory matters and guiding the permitting and development of major infrastructure projects. He served as Office Managing Partner of Perkins Coie's Washington, D.C., office for nine years before being elevated to firmwide leadership.

Bill holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Journal on Regulation, an M.Sc. in Public Policy, with distinction, from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and an A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University.
