Julia Derrick is an experienced advisor on mergers and acquisitions, project development and commercial contracts in the energy sector, with a particular focus on upstream oil & gas, LNG and the energy transition.

Her M&A experience includes advising buyers and sellers on transactions at the corporate and asset level (including farm-ins) through both bilateral and auction sales processes.

She has advised on numerous LNG liquefaction and regasification projects (including floating LNG regasification and small-scale LNG projects) and LNG sales and marketing arrangements.

Increasingly, she is also advising on cutting edge energy transition projects, including hydrogen and synthetic fuels.

Julia also advises on a wider range of company and commercial work in the energy sector, including joint ventures, and is recognized by all key legal directories for her experience.

  • Global Infrastructure Partners | Lead Partner | 2025 | On its entry into a definitive agreement to acquire a 49.99% interest in Eni CCUS Holding, a leading global platform in the carbon capture, utilization, and storage sector.
  • Serica Energy plc | Lead Partner | 2025 | On the proposed acquisition by its subsidiary, Serica Energy Mistral Limited, of the entirety of stake in the P.111 and P.2544 licenses located in the UK Central North Sea, including the Culzean gas condensate field.
  • Rockhopper Exploration plc | Lead Partner | 2022 | On its arrangements with Harbour Energy and Navitas Petroleum to effect Harbour Energy's exit and Rockhopper and Navitas' proposed development of the Sea Lion project in the Falkland Islands, estimated to hold approximately 520 mmbbl of 2C Contingent Reserves.
  • Whalsay Energy Holdings Limited | Lead Partner | 2021 | On the sale of Whalsay Energy Limited (which owns 100% of the Bentley heavy oil discovery in the UKCS) to EnQuest plc, including deferred payments to Whalsay based on future revenues generated by the acquired company.
  • Japanese Consortium | Lead Partner | 2023 | In relation to its proposed equity investment in, and long-term LNG offtake from, a US liquefaction facility, together with downstream sales arrangements.*
  • Merlon International LLC | 2020 | In relation to the agreement to sell its subsidiary company Merlon Petroleum El Fayum Company, which owns oil & gas assets in Egypt, to SOCO International plc.
  • Gasgrid Finland | Lead Partner | 2022 | On its 10-year contract with Excelerate Energy to lease an FSRU in order to develop a floating LNG import terminal in Finland and Estonia.
  • LNG Hrvatska | Lead Partner | 2020 | On the development of a floating LNG regasification terminal on the Island of Krk in Croatia, including the procurement of an FSRU.
  • Essar Oil (UK) Limited | Lead Partner | 2022 | On its joint venture arrangements with Progressive Energy Limited to invest approximately £1 billion in building the UK's largest  blue hydrogen production facility at Essar's Stanlow refinery as part of the wider HyNet NW project.
  • Aberdeen Standard | 2019 | On its acquisition of Oikos Storage, the only independent operator of liquid bulk storage terminal located on the River Thames Estuary, offering 300,000 cubic meters of tank storage capacity.
