Introduction

Jon leads Ashurst Perkins Coie's UK and Middle East Dispute Resolution practices, helping clients to resolve high-profile, complex commercial disputes and regulatory issues, including class and group actions.

Jon Gale has a broad commercial litigation practice including fraud, shareholder, joint venture, and contractual disputes as well as advising on procurement, competition and public law disputes. Much of his work is currently focused on class and group action claims in the English courts. He has advised major corporates, financial institutions and government bodies in the financial services, defense, real estate, energy, technology, consumer goods, telecommunications and transport sectors. His international experience spans a wide range of locations including Europe, the Middle East, North America, Africa and Asia. 

Jon is recognized as a Leading Individual in Legal 500 where he has been described as a "stand-out partner who always delivers" and "hugely knowledgeable, highly intelligent and a joy to work with".  He is also recognized in Chambers and described as "an excellent litigator that gets under the skin of complex issues and provides client-friendly and pragmatic strategic advice".

  • Telefonica | Representing Telefonica in defending a major class action arising from so-called "loyalty penalty" charges applied for mobile phone handsets.
  • Imperial Brands | Representing Imperial Brands in defending group litigation claims brought on behalf of circa 10,000 Malawian tobacco farmers.
  • Major institutional investors | Representing major institutional investors in a £2 billion dispute relating to the exercise of rights of first offer in a shareholders agreement.
  • GSH Private Investments | Representing GSH in a £100 million + shareholder and directors' duties dispute.
  • Ryder Limited | Representing Ryder Limited in large scale and long-running litigation arising from the European Commission’s truck cartel investigation. 
  • London Underground Limited | Representing London Underground in litigation arising from the £2.5 billion procurement for new trains for the Piccadilly, Central, Bakerloo and Waterloo & City lines. 
  • Transport for London | Representing TfL in a c. £250 million claim arising from the proposed river-crossing between Silvertown and Greenwich Peninsular in East London.
  • Emirates NBD Bank and Emirates Islamic Bank | In relation to a dispute regarding the enforceability of local Dubai Court judgments relating to demands made on personal guarantees covering major corporate lending.
  • Clare Spottiswoode | Acting for the Class Representative in a c. £650 million + group claim against Motorola in respect of charges applied for the emergency services telecommunications network in the UK.
  • National Westminster Bank Plc | Representing NatWest in relation to a dispute involving the States of India and Pakistan named as one of The Lawyer's Top 20 cases.
  • Daiwa Capital Markets | Representing Daiwa Capital Markets in a c. US $200 million + dispute concerning the attribution of fraud in a one-man company.
