Introduction

Dyfan is well known for his experience in advising clients in construction disputes and in handling arbitrations.

Dyfan Owen is a partner in our dispute resolution practice in London. He focuses on disputes arising out of the engineering, infrastructure and construction sectors and has advised on a number of high value disputes for clients globally. Dyfan has widespread experience in the resolution of disputes by arbitration; High Court litigation, expert determination, adjudication and mediation. Dyfan also sits as an arbitrator. Between 2015 and 2020 Dyfan led Ashurst's disputes practice in the Middle East.

Recent matters on which Dyfan has acted include litigation and international arbitration relating to the construction and operation of several power plants in the Middle East, the construction of an airport in a GCC state, the construction of telecommunications infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, the construction of an offshore wind farm project in the UK, the construction of real estate developments in the UK and the construction of a petrochemical plant in the Caribbean.

  • The owner and operator of ports | Advising in respect of several high value disputes in respect of the construction of port infrastructure in the UK.
  • A national oil company | Advising in respect of a dispute, with a value in excess of US$250 million, relating to the termination of a contract to construct underground storage units to store crude oil.
  • An employer | Advising in respect of various delay, disruption and extension of time claims, with a value in excess of US$1 billion. arising from an energy project in the Middle East.  
  • An oil and gas company | Acting in respect of a billion dollar dispute with a contractor relating to the construction of artificial islands for a downstream energy project in the Middle East.
  • National rail company | Acting in a dispute with a contractor, with a value in excess of US$1 billion, relating to delay and disruption to the completion of a transport infrastructure project.
  • A developer | Acting in respect of Technology and Construction Court proceedings against a contractor engaged to carry out cladding and associated works for a tower in London.
  • A facilities management company in respect of a number of disputes, including adjudication proceedings, relating to PFI projects in the UK.
  • Infrastructure Fund | Advising in a dispute with a joint venture partner, including in LCIA Arbitration proceedings, relating to the construction of a recycling facility in Scandinavia.
