Introduction
With a career spanning private practice and the European Court of Justice, Donald focuses on EU competition, subsidy and regulatory law.
Donald Slater has focused on EU law since 2000, mainly working in private practice but also in the EU institutions and academia. He has extensive experience in EU and UK subsidy law, advising governments, beneficiaries and complainants in relation to the EU State aid and UK subsidies regime as well as, more recently, preparation for the entry into force of the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation. He has diverse and in-depth experience in litigation before European courts, having represented clients in various cases ranging from state aid and regulatory issues to cartel cases and abuse of dominance. Donald returned to Ashurst in 2018 after spending three years in the European Court of Justice in the chambers of an Advocate General, working on cases in all fields of EU law, with particular emphasis on regulatory law.
"Donald Slater is a standout litigator, representing the likes of UEFA in high-stakes cases before the ECJ and General Court." Legal 500 2023" Donald Slater is uncomplicated and easy to work with. He is pragmatic, approachable and not too legalese. He has really good business acumen."
