Introduction
Stephen drafts and prosecutes patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Stephen A. Brookman assists clients with patent litigation disputes, inter partes review petitions, patent infringement and validity analysis, and general commercial litigation matters.
As a former engineer and patent examiner, Stephen uses his experience and perspective to provide strategic counseling for clients where legal and technical matters intersect. He has represented clients in an array of technology areas, with a focus on aerospace technologies, including space vehicles, satellites, and unmanned aircraft systems. Stephen also prepares and prosecutes patent applications for a major sporting goods company. He has also represented clients in patent matters involving robotics, medical devices, renewable energy, data collection systems, smart batteries, cellular communication networks, bedding, printers, window coverings, outdoor recreational equipment, agricultural and lawn equipment, waste management systems, explosive devices, fire suppression systems, helmets, and video game equipment.
Before practicing law, Stephen examined patent applications at the USPTO in the fields of aeronautics, astronautics, and animal husbandry. He worked as an engineer supporting a line of ordinance components and energetic materials in the aerospace and defense industry. While he was a law student, he was an editor for Jurimetrics, The Journal of Law, Science, and Technology. As an undergraduate student, he enjoyed assisting graduate researchers in developing and testing robotic hardware, including as a SCUBA diver for simulated space missions.
