Ross has extensive experience advising on all aspects of competition and consumer law, including cartel conduct, misuse of market power, resale price maintenance, exclusive dealing and third line forcing, misleading conduct, unconscionable conduct, consumer guarantees and unfair contract terms.

Ross focuses on complex competition law investigations and litigation involving the ACCC and is highly capable and experienced in cross-border and multi-jurisdictional matters. He has extensive experience across a range of industries, with a particular focus on the financial services and healthcare sectors.

Ross advises on commercial arrangements which may raise price fixing, misuse of market power or other anti-competitive conduct concerns. He also assists clients seeking informal clearance from the ACCC for proposed transactions and collaborative arrangements, and on compliance with the Australian Consumer Law.

  • Downer EDI Limited: Advising in relation to Federal Court proceedings commenced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) against its subsidiary, Spotless Facility Services Pty Ltd (Spotless) concerning allegations of civil cartel conduct in Government contracting.
  • Alkaloids of Australia Pty Limited: Acted as global lead counsel in multi-jurisdictional cartel investigations and proceedings by the European Commission, Swiss Competition Commission, CADE (Brazil), and the Commonwealth DPP (Australia) concerning the supply of scopolamine products.
  • International Bank: Advising on confidential ACCC investigation alleging cartel conduct in South-east Asia concerning benchmarks and FX trading.
  • Nippon Life Insurance Company: Advised on the ACCC clearance of its $8.2bn acquisition of Resolution Life Group.
  • 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd: Advised on ACCC clearance issues arising in the competitive bid process to dispose of the 7-Eleven business in Australia.
  • Healthscope: Advised on the strategy for ACCC clearance and competition law considerations in the sale of the Healthscope Group's portfolio of 36 hospitals to multiple buyers, and the potential for a sale of the portfolio to a newly established not-for-profit led by the lender group.
  • Commonwealth Bank of Australia: Advised on engagement with the ACCC and assisting in responding to the ACCC's Home Loan inquiry.
  • Leading Australian platform: Advised on investigation by ACCC into arrangements with customers, successfully negotiating a s 87B undertaking.
