Patrick provides clients with business-focused and market-driven advice regarding their domestic and international IP portfolios.

Patrick Koncel represents clients in a variety of industries, from large multinational corporations to startups to small family companies. He counsels on trademark issues, including high-impact trademark matters and advises emerging companies on the trademark disputes inherent in launching a company. He also helps established companies preserve and maximize the value of their trademark portfolio performance through maintenance and management. 

Patrick assists clients with trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement, monitoring, and maintenance. He also provides trademark advice to corporate, diligence, and transactional teams. Patrick has prosecuted and defended numerous matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also manages nonadversarial trademark issues, including negotiating and drafting contracts for the purchase and sale of trademark assets, trademark licenses and assignments, and other IP agreements for domestic and international use. 

Patrick currently serves on the Trademark Relations with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Committee of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, which contributes to trademark policymaking at the federal level. During the USPTO rulemaking process, Patrick also prepares position papers and amicus briefs for submission in trademark cases. 

In addition, Patrick maintains an active pro bono practice, providing resources to incarcerated gender nonconforming people through the Transgender Law Center and preparing immigration forms for individuals in need of services through the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.
