Murray Wheater practices in the area of mergers and acquisitions and equity capital market transactions, with a particular focus on transactions in the infrastructure, energy and mining sectors. His experience spans a wide variety of transactions, including takeovers, schemes of arrangement, acquisitions and disposals, capital raisings, private equity investments, joint ventures. Murray regularly advises on investment regulation matters such as the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act and the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act.
Murray is known for his "hands-on" approach and commitment to clients in their pursuit of corporate objectives. He boasts significant international experience, and has acted on various complex Australian, UK and cross-border transactions involving multiple legal systems, time zones and industries.

- Kingston Resources Limited on the sale of the Misima Gold Project for A$95 million to Ok Tedi Mining Limited (2025).
- Lithium Power International Limited on the scheme of arrangement pursuant to which Codelco acquired 100% of its issued share capital for A$280 million (2024).

- Advance Energy (a consortium comprising Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, AMP Capital, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and QIA) on the successful acquisition of 50.4% of Endeavour Energy from NSW Government through a 99-year lease for A$7.624 billion (2017).
- IFM and AustralianSuper on their acquisition of 50.4% of Ausgrid from the NSW Government for gross proceeds of approximately A$16 billion (2016).
