Introduction

Miriam helps clients understand their data practices and meet legal and regulatory obligations as new laws emerge in the United States and internationally.

Miriam D. Farhi counsels clients on privacy and security issues and helps them build global data governance programs. She develops data maps and conducts privacy assessments, enabling clients to benchmark their practices against applicable laws and regulations and identify and address compliance gaps. 

Miriam also advises clients on comprehensive privacy laws, including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and other consumer privacy laws that have proliferated across the United States. She advises companies on sectoral privacy laws at the federal and state levels, including laws that relate to consumer health data, marketing and advertising, and children’s privacy. 

Miriam works with clients across industries, with a particular interest in working with brands and retailers on privacy issues arising at the intersection of retail and technology. She frequently advises clients in the retail sector that want to adopt and integrate new technologies into their business, such as AI, augmented and virtual reality, the metaverse, emerging commerce platforms, frictionless payments, targeted advertising, and more.  

In the emerging field of AI and data governance, Miriam helps clients develop data governance strategies that are robust, compliant, and ethically sound. She works with companies to design and implement AI governance programs, assess third-party AI solutions, conduct vendor due diligence, carry out and document AI risk assessments, and more.
