Introduction
John is a creative advocate with experience counseling and representing clients in complex disputes and high-stakes matters of public law and policy.
John Bailey recently served in the Biden administration as senior counsel in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of General Counsel, where he advised senior administration officials on higher education policy and the federal student loan programs. In this role, John helped coordinate the department’s litigation defense of key administration priorities and oversaw the department’s legal efforts in administrative actions and class-action settlements exceeding $8 billion.
Earlier in his career, John represented plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts across the country and in arbitrations, including matters involving antitrust, IP, class-action, prisoner civil rights, and other complex high-stakes disputes. He clerked for Judge Anthony J. Scirica of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Judge Robert S. Lasnik of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
Before law school, John was an Emmy Award–winning producer with NBC News, where he covered campaigns and politics, the Supreme Court of the United States, and other national news.
