Introduction
Jeff helps client navigate complex environmental, planning and climate change challenges in the energy, resources, infrastructure and waste sectors.
Jeff Lynn practices in the areas of environmental, planning and climate change law. He acts for a wide range of public and private sector clients, but his practice is principally focused on the energy, resources and infrastructure industries.
Jeff regularly assists clients to obtain environmental and planning approvals for projects, including acting in litigation arising from these approvals, and the legal aspects of environmental investigations and incident management. Jeff advises on the environmental aspects of asset closure and site remediation and redevelopment. Jeff's clients appreciate his strategic approach to resolving complex problems, often involving the navigation of a multi-regulator and stakeholder environment.
Jeff is also an experienced advisor in relation to climate change law, and the regulatory and commercial risks and opportunities created by climate change. He assisted many large businesses with the introduction of various climate change policy initiatives and with the development of carbon offsetting projects under both mandatory and voluntary schemes.
- Onshore renewable energy developers | Assisting project developers to obtain planning and environmental approvals for major greenfields energy projects including advising in relation to merits and judicial review proceedings arising in relation to those approvals.
- Offshore wind developers | Acting for a range new market entrants into the Australian offshore wind industry including supporting Gippsland feasibility license holders with early-stage project development.
- Resource and infrastructure companies | Advising mining and infrastructure developers in relation to the environmental and other regulatory approvals required for greenfield project development of mines, rail, road and infrastructure together with brownfields expansions and ancillary infrastructure such as tailings dams and pipelines.
- Mining companies | Advising on the regulatory and environmental approvals required to close and rehabilitate mines and associated mining related infrastructure, including in some instances support for options with respect to re-use and repurposing of rehabilitated land.
- Oil and gas industry | Advising on both new project approvals and end of life decommissioning of offshore oil and gas infrastructure and options for asset recycling including the use of carbon capture and storage.
- State and local government | Advising a range of Government departments, agencies and major metropolitan councils on law reform and policy issues with a particular focus on policies relating to emissions reduction and climate change mitigation.
- Various industries | Acting for a wide range of clients across sectors in relation to environmental risk and compliance issues including supporting them to respond to environmental incidents and associated investigations, enforcement and prosecutions.
