Introduction

Ian focuses on corporate and international tax, regularly advising clients on tax outcomes for mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructures, financing and other major transactions.

Ian has been the lead tax adviser on a number of significant transactions including Steel Dynamics Inc joint proposal to acquire BlueScope Steel, ANZ's acquisition of Suncorp Bank and McGrath Nicol in respect of its receivership of the Healthscope group.

Recognition of Ian's status as a market leading taxation adviser is reflected in his appointment by the Australian Treasurer as a part time member of the Board of Taxation. The Board of Taxation is a non-statutory advisory body to the Federal Government, charged with contributing a business and broader community perspective to improving the design of taxation laws and their operation.
