Gavin has a wealth of experience advising on complex corporate transactions, in particular in the financial services sector where he is our Head of Financial Institutions M&A.

Gavin Weir has over 30 years' experience of leading domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, with a focus on the financial services industry.

His practice covers the full spectrum of corporate advice, including: public and private M&A; takeovers; auctions; joint ventures; fundraisings; strategic partnerships; restructuring; and C-suite advice to boards and senior executives.

Gavin has worked with clients across numerous jurisdictions, including the UK, EU, CEE, Middle East, North America, South America, Africa and Asia.

He previously served as co-head of the Financial Institutions M&A team at another global law firm and is recognized by Legal 500 as a “Leading Individual” for upper mid-market and premium deals.

  • Zepz (formerly World Remit) on its acquisition of a key credit based product from Pomelo, a platform that integrates consumer credit and global remittances with a credit card designed for money transfer. 
  • Zepz (formerly WorldRemit) on its c US$270 million equity fundraise from new and existing investors.
  • European Dynamics on a minority investment led by CAPZA and joined by Abry Partners.
  • Piraeus Bank on the acquisition of a stake in Moneybox, a UK digital consumer finance business.
  • Mediobanca and Polus Capital Management on the acquisition of Bybrook Capital LLP and on ADIA's subsequent strategic investment in Polus and funds managed by Polus.
  • Alpha Bank on its successful strategic partnership with payments specialist Nexi S.p.A. resulting in the creation of “Nexi Payments Greece".
