Introduction

Dr Faisal Baassiri is the managing partner of our Saudi offices, with a multidisciplinary practice spanning corporate, disputes, wealth management, employment and projects, as well as cross-border transactions.

Faisal joined the firm in December 2012 to launch the firm's first Saudi Arabia office. Prior to joining the firm, he served as Head of Legal at one of the Kingdom's most prominent family-owned conglomerates, with diversified interests across investments and wealth management. 

He regularly advises leading local and international financial institutions and corporates on transactions and contentious matters in Saudi Arabia, as well as on cross-border mandates with a Saudi element.

From a cross-border perspective, Faisal also advises on Saudi Arabian law for a wide range of energy and infrastructure transactions. He supports clients in navigating and understanding the Saudi legal and regulatory landscape.

  • A US based global investment manager | Advising on a claim against a defaulting Saudi Company (for an amount of approximately US$650 million in Saudi Arabia) in respect of bankruptcy procedures in Saudi Arabia.
  • A major Saudi entity | Advertising on their EPC projects JV with a global company.
  • A major global hotel company | Advertising in relation to several disputes including with hotel owners for unpaid management fees involving procedure in front of commercial court and execution court.
  • A world-leading design, engineering and project management company in relation to Saudi advice on restructuring of their entities in Saudi Arabia (more than 10 entities)
  • National Center for Privatisation & PPP and Mawani in relation to 11 port terminal concession PPPs for Mawani in Saudi Arabia
  • The National Centre for Privatization & PPP on the development and operation of the Riyadh Dry Port in Saudi Arabia
  • A Singaporean Law firm to act as Saudi expert in a proceeding in the Singapore International Commercial Court ("SICC") in relation to a dispute between a Singapore company and a Saudi company. (approximately SAR0.5bn).
  • A UK law firm to act as Saudi expert in a dispute between a Saudi company and a Chinese Company for breach of agreement in front of UK Court
  • An appointed arbitrator in an ICC arbitration in relation to a complex construction project in Saudi Arabia.
  • A UK law firm to act as Saudi expert on Saudi law issues in an international arbitration proceedings (LCIA) (the value of the dispute was in excess of US$500m).
  • A UK Law Firm to act as a Saudi expert in a dispute between a Liechtenstein foundation and Saudi parties on inheritance matters in front of UK High Court.
  • A US bank | Advising in relation tax related disputes.
  • A UK law firm | Advising on a job in front of the UK high Court on a dispute related to a real estate asset.
  • A Japanese investment bank | Advising on a claim against a defaulting Saudi Company (for an amount of approximately US$165 million in Saudi Arabia) in respect of bankruptcy procedures in Saudi Arabia.
  • An employer and a contractor | Acted as an independent expert in a dispute between a governmental authority and private company in relation to the construction of a major complex in one of the Saudi airports.
  • A major Saudi port company | Acted on a contract issue with Saudi Ports Authority in relation to one of the ports.
  • A transportation company | Acted on a legal issue between the seller and the buyer for unpaid part of the sale purchase price. 
  • A construction company | Acted on managing all of their legal disputes for the past three years. This includes advising on employment, commercial, lease and rental issues.
