Introduction
Elke is an experienced tax lawyer and adviser to leading Australian and global clients on matters of taxation, particularly in relation to indirect taxes.
Elke Bremner advises on all areas of indirect tax including GST, stamp duty, land tax, payroll tax and other State-based taxes. Elke's practice includes advising on a broad range of GST and stamp duty issues in respect of business and share sale agreements, takeovers and corporate reconstructions, insolvency and restructuring, foreign investment and transactions involving real estate and build-to-rent developments.
Elke is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia, an active committee member of the Property Council of Australia's NSW Tax Committee (and former Deputy Chair) and the Indirect Tax Committee, member of the ATO GST Stewardship Group and member of the organizing committee for the Taxation Institute of Australia's National GST Conference. Elke has also been recognized as a Tax Rising Star in numerous legal directories, such as Doyle's Guide, IFLR and Euromoney's Expert Guide.
- Brookfield Asset Management: Advising on stamp duty, land tax and commercial and industrial property tax implications of Brookfield A$4 billion takeover of National Storage REIT, the largest ever take private of a real estate investment trust, by way of scheme of arrangement and trust scheme.
- Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH): Assisting on advising on all indirect tax aspects in relation to the largest and most advanced green hydrogen projects in the world, comprising a 6,500km2 site and the development of 26GW of wind and solar energy capable of producing 1.6 million tons per annum of green hydrogen and associated transport, transmission and export infrastructure.
- Allied Credit: Advising on stamp duty and GST implications of Allied's A$1.5b acquisition of Macquarie Bank's vehicle finance portfolio.
- Alcoa Corporation: Advising Alcoa on the acquisition of Alumina Limited by way of scheme of arrangement.
- Steel Dynamics Inc: Advising Steel Dynamics on the stamp duty implications of its joint bid with Seven Group Holdings to acquire BlueScope Steel Limited for a deal value worth A$15b.
- TPG Telecom Limited: Advising TPG on the stamp duty implications of the sale of its Enterprise, Government and Wholesale fixed business and fibre network assets to Vocus worth A$5.25b.
- Pontegadea Shareholdings Luxembourg S.à.r.l. (Pontegadea): Advising Pontegadea on the indirect tax implications of its proposed investment in a special purpose vehicle to acquire Qube Limited, an ASX listed ports and logistics company worth A$11b.
- La Caisse: Advising La Caisse on the stamp duty implications of a range of significant transactions including the global merger of Ivanhoe Cambridge and CDPQ to form La Caisse, the conversion of the Scape Core Fund into an open-ended fund and a number of acquisitions through the new Scape fund.
- Infrastructure NSW: Advising INSW on the GST implications of the proposed redevelopment of Blackwattle Bay, an urban renewal project that included the relocation of the iconic Sydney Fish Market and transformation of the waterfront industrial and commercial precinct into a vibrant mixed-use precinct.
- McGrathNicol: Advising on all indirect tax aspects of the receivership for Healthscope Group, including the sale of the National Capital Private Hospital to Ramsay Healthcare.
