David Aaron

David Aaron's clients range from startups to multinational corporations and span industry sectors. He both provides advice to clients and represents them in administrative, state, and federal proceedings. Building on decades of private-sector and government experience, David helps clients take a whole-of-business approach to incident preparedness and response, law enforcement interactions, and intersections of law and emerging technology. He also guides clients in identifying and prioritizing regulatory and other legal risks and obligations related to cybersecurity and insider threats.

David is a former counterintelligence prosecutor with DOJ’s National Security Division and a former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney. His experience includes investigating and litigating cases involving espionage and insider threats, malicious cyber activity, theft of trade secrets, undisclosed foreign government influence, and export control violations. David also worked closely with the FBI and other elements of the U.S. Intelligence Community on sensitive intelligence collection programs. 

While serving at DOJ, David focused on the Espionage Act, Economic Espionage Act, Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, Electronic Communication Privacy Act, and related data security and privacy authorities, such as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. He has extensive experience working with U.S. law enforcement and national security agencies. David applies that experience to help clients manage sensitive information and interactions with federal and state authorities. 

David is also a visiting professor of government at Wesleyan University, where he teaches National Security Law and Cybersecurity. He is frequently interviewed by leading media outlets for his insights into prominent national security cases and investigations. David's pro bono work includes representing Afghan asylum seekers, appearing before U.S. Department of Defense courts to defend security clearances, and filing an amicus curiae brief on behalf of a group of veteran’s associations before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
