Chin Yeoh is the lead M&A partner in our Hong Kong corporate practice and is a partner in our global Japan practice.
Chin is recognized as a pre-eminent M&A lawyer in Asia and has over 20 years of experience advising on private and public M&A and private capital transactions in Asia, Europe, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. Chin excels in building long-term trusted relationships with clients through supporting them on their most complex and sensitive multi-jurisdictional M&A transactions and corporate and commercial matters. Chin advises clients in a broad range of industries and has significant experience in infrastructure, energy, financial services, industrials and technology related transactions.
Chin is recognized as a market leading M&A practitioner having been a three-time sole winner of the Lexology Client Choice Awards for Hong Kong M&A, and he is individually ranked in Chambers and Partners and IFLR.

Landmark transactions which Chin has advised on include advising ITOCHU Corporation on its US$10.3 billion acquisition of 20% of CITIC Limited together with Charoen Pokphand Group, Digi.com on its US$12.1 billion merger with Celcom as well as Spring REIT on its successful defense of the hostile takeover offer from PAG, the first hostile offer for a REIT in Hong Kong.
Chin is qualified to practice in Hong Kong, England and Wales, Australia and Ireland. He regularly acts as international counsel to clients on their investments in many jurisdictions throughout the globe.
Chin's experience includes advising:
- ITOCHU Corporation on its US$2.6 billion acquisition of Lycra from Koch Industries together with Shandong Ruyi, HK$7 billion privatization of CP Pokphand together with CP Group, US$1.9 billion strategic alliance and share swap with CP Pokphand and subsequent sale of investments in CP Foods and CP Pokphand and investment in Everfuel together with Osaka Gas and subsequent privatization with Swiss Life Asset Management.
- Mitsui & Co., Ltd. on its sale with J-Power of their interests in the 2GW Hezhou coal fired power plant to China Resources Power, SAF/HVO refinery joint venture with Galp in Portugal and investment in Hexagon Purus.
- Sojitz Corporation on its EV distribution joint venture investment with Gill Gruppen AS in Norway and automobile distribution joint venture investment with ADM Global in Uzbekistan.
- Mitsui OSK Lines on its joint venture with Vopak for the development of Hong Kong’s first FSRU, Bauhinia Spirit.
- CK Infrastructure on its US$448.5 million acquisition of 32 onshore wind farms in the UK from Aviva Investors.
- APC Group on the sale of a controlling stake to Navis, subsequent sale by Navis to Longreach Group and bolt-on acquisition of I-Chem Solutions.
- Stonepeak Partners on its MIDC joint venture with MIESCOR for the acquisition of Globe Telecom's mobile towers in the Philippines.
- Macquarie Capital on its joint venture with Covanta Energy for a greenfield waste to energy project in the Philippines.
- New World Development and Far East Consortium on their US$1 billion distressed acquisition of a major residential development site in Kai Tak from Kaisa Group.
- APG Asset Management on its joint venture with an Indian developer for commercial office development.
