Introduction

Caitlin provides thoughtful, astute advice in the areas of estate planning, tax planning, premarital planning, trust administration, and probate court matters.

Caitlin E. Carey's practice ranges from traditional estate planning to sophisticated wealth-transfer planning. She balances the competing concerns of gift and estate tax issues, income tax issues, and California property tax issues under Proposition 13. Caitlin’s background in litigation enables her to anticipate and minimize family conflict through careful planning.

Caitlin represents clients in the negotiation and preparation of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, often using a collaborative process in which the parties and their lawyers work together toward a mutually agreeable outcome. She also counsels clients on best practices for preserving separate property rights and interests both before and during marriage.

Caitlin’s clients include individuals and families of all types, including newlyweds, families planning for their young children, multigenerational families coordinating their wealth-transfer planning, and blended families seeking to provide for each other while protecting the interests of their respective children.
