Aaron counsels emerging companies and investors in the medical device industry, from incubation through acquisition or initial public offering.
Aaron Poledna serves on the Global Leadership Team at Ashurst Perkins Coie and is firmwide Chair of the Intellectual Property Division. He represents medical device clients and investors in the medical device and digital health industries across the United States and European Union. Recently, Aaron has been involved in raising hundreds of millions of dollars in venture funding for emerging medical device companies, and his emerging company clients have been involved in acquisitions worth billions of dollars.
Aaron has extensive experience with both domestic and foreign patent prosecution, as well as portfolio development, management, enforcement, and licensing. He frequently advises clients regarding portfolio positioning, analysis of third-party patents, and identification of key patent assets for acquisition or monetization.
Aaron performs patent preparation and prosecution in a variety of technology areas, including medical devices, aerospace technology, semiconductor processing and fabrication, cannabis-related technology and products, consumer and industrial electronics, financial services and systems, and software. His experience with medical devices includes renal neuromodulation, cardiovascular devices, robotic surgical systems, cardiac mapping systems, patient monitoring systems, neurovascular devices, ophthalmic devices, prosthetic devices, endovascular devices, and spinal devices. Additionally, Aaron counsels clients on design patents and industrial designs.
Aaron has a background in aerospace engineering and worked at Boeing as a flight operations engineer before beginning his law practice. He is involved in several life sciences industry associations and leads community involvement and pro bono efforts in Ashurst Perkin Coie’s Seattle office.
