Ashurst Perkins Coie practises law in Japan through Ashurst Perkins Coie Horitsu Jimusho Gaikokuho Kyodo Jigyo, a joint enterprise formed under the Special Measures Law Concerning the Handling of Legal Business by Foreign Lawyers (the "Special Measures Law"), affiliated with Ashurst Perkins Coie UK LLP.

The joint enterprise is regulated by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations in accordance with the Special Measures Law. Lawyers who are partners of the joint enterprise are admitted as Japanese qualified lawyers (bengoshi) or registered as foreign lawyers in Japan (gaikokuho jimu bengoshi). All lawyers are regulated by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and the relevant Bar Association in Tokyo. Lawyers based in Japan who are qualified in other jurisdictions are also subject to regulation by the relevant regulatory body in their place of admission.
