Introduction
Josi represents clients in high-stakes disputes through trial, arbitration, and all phases of civil litigation.
Josi Kovacs brings practical courtroom experience and a disciplined approach to complicated cases and legal questions. She offers thoughtful advice to businesses and individuals at every stage of litigation, drawing on her experience with complex fact development, motion practice, and trial work. Josi has represented clients in a variety of industries, including technology, healthcare, professional services, industrial design, energy, real estate, and construction.
Josi is passionate about courtroom advocacy and has trial experience in state courts, federal courts, and arbitrations. She excels at making sense of complicated cases and quickly being able to explain those cases to a judge, jury, or arbitrator. Her trial experience includes examining fact and expert witnesses, arguing motions in limine, preparing witnesses, working with jury consultants, and managing pretrial filings. She has taken cases to trial on claims for partnership dissolution, patent infringement, product liability, professional malpractice, and breach of contract.
Most recently, Josi secured two trial victories. The first was a total victory representing plaintiff homeowners in a real estate agent professional malpractice case. In another case, she secured a victory for a business owner navigating the breakdown of a business partnership. She also first chaired a pro bono bench trial, securing a restraining order for a victim of domestic violence.
Earlier in her career, she advocated for incarcerated clients in disciplinary hearings as a student lawyer. She is now involved in her community with a particular interest in civic engagement and mentorship. She serves on the board of directors for the Civics Learning Project. She is also a member of the Multnomah Bar Association’s Professionalism Committee, where she is helping launch a new young lawyer mentorship program.
