Neal Mehrotra

Neal Mehrotra regularly helps clients develop litigation strategies, manage complex discovery, prepare witnesses, brief dispositive motions, and preserve issues for appeal. By combining trial-level experience with sophisticated appellate advocacy, Neal guides complex business disputes with an eye toward immediate litigation objectives and long-term strategic outcomes. He has also successfully originated significant business as an associate, giving him an appreciation for both the legal and commercial dimensions of client service.

Neal has substantial experience representing clients throughout every phase of complex commercial litigation. His experience includes managing fact and expert discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses, briefing dispositive and evidentiary motions, handling emergency appellate proceedings, and preparing cases for trial and arbitration. He served as second chair in a multiday AAA commercial arbitration proceeding involving a shareholder derivative action that resulted in the summary dismissal of approximately two-thirds of the opposing party's claims.

Neal's practice has a particular emphasis on antitrust litigation. He has represented clients in monopolization, exclusive dealing, information-sharing, and class-action matters, including class-certification litigation. His experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants gives him a practical understanding of how complex competition disputes are investigated, litigated, and resolved. He also has advised hedge funds, private investors, and independent directors on antitrust exposure and litigation risk arising from significant commercial transactions and bankruptcy proceedings. Neal previously served as the young lawyer representative to the American Bar Association Antitrust Law Section's Unilateral Conduct Committee.

An experienced appellate advocate, Neal has drafted merits briefs, petitions for writs of mandamus, emergency applications, and amicus briefs before the Supreme Court of the United States; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, D.C., and Ninth Circuits; and numerous state and federal courts. In a nationally significant antitrust matter, Neal authored the sole amicus brief cited by the judges of the Ninth Circuit during oral argument.

In addition to his litigation practice, Neal serves as a professorial lecturer in law at the George Washington University Law School, where he has taught for the past three years. He has consistently received the highest possible student evaluation rating for his teaching. He is also the co-author of “Democracy and Demography,” published in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law.
