Introduction

Nick helps financial institutions and fintech companies navigate digital asset regulation, market structure, and enforcement.

Nicolas Rodriguez advises financial institutions and fintech companies on a broad range of issues arising at the intersection of digital and traditional finance. Nick has particular experience with the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, including advising clients on requirements related to stablecoin issuance, reserve assets, custody, and liquidity. He also counsels clients on emerging digital asset market structure issues, such as the regulatory treatment of DeFi protocols, staking, tokenized financial products, and cryptocurrencies, as well as banking and financial regulatory issues affecting the development of new products and services. Nick routinely advises clients on regulatory engagement and approval for digital asset products and initiatives.

Nick's litigation practice focuses on high-stakes government investigations, enforcement matters, and complex commercial disputes. He has represented clients in DOJ and SEC investigations involving cryptocurrency exchanges and digital asset companies, multiagency regulatory inquiries, complex federal and state litigation, and appellate proceedings.

Prior to joining Ashurst Perkins Coie, Nick served as in-house counsel at a leading global financial institution, where he advised on digital asset regulation, stablecoins, market structure, and bank supervisory and regulatory matters.
