Introduction
Shishir is a cross-border India authority advising on banking, finance, corporate and projects matters, with 25+ years' experience across London, Mumbai and New York.
Based in London, he represents a wide range of Indian and international clients on cross-border matters relating to India and his core practice includes advising on India related banking and finance transactions, and more generally on corporate, commercial and projects related matters having an India touch point.
Shishir has been in practice of law for over 25 years and has previously been an equity partner at Khaitan & Co in Mumbai for over a decade and prior to that, has worked at leading international law firms in London and New York. He is admitted to practice law in India, England & Wales and New York and is a graduate of NLSIU Bangalore, Columbia Law School and the London School of Economics (LSE).
Shishir works closely with our global offices on inbound and outbound India related transactions and his positioning and deep connections in the country allow him to harness his knowledge of the domestic market for the benefit of our clients on cross-border India matters. Shishir also regularly spends time on the ground in India and is well versed with local nuances and dynamics which tend to be particularly relevant on India related transactions. More recently, he has played an instrumental role in Ashurst Perkins Coie being recognized as a key player on the cross-border India corridor by India Business Law Journal (IBLJ) in their 2026 list of Top India Focused Foreign Law Firms, and has also been named in the 2026 IBLJ International A-list recognizing leading international lawyers for their work on India-related matters.
- A major international banking and financial services group | Advised in connection with external commercial borrowing of US$600 million for Dhamra LNG Terminal Private Limited (a 50:50 JV between Total SA and Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd.) and related hedging documentation.
- Axis Bank led consortium on a term loan facility of INR 60 billion to Jio Digital Fibre Private Limited.
- A large bank | Advised on a uncommitted standby letter of credit facility for an aggregate amount of US$750 million extended to InterGlobe Aviation Limited (Indigo Airlines).
- A global financial services firm | Advised in relation to senior and mezzanine facilities aggregating to £235 million provided to offshore subsidiaries of Lodha Group, India for acquisition of a property in London for construction and development purposes.
- A large global financial institution | Advised in relation to the issue and listing of secured, rated, listed, redeemable, non-cumulative, taxable non-convertible debentures aggregating INR 2 billion, on a private placement basis for Altico Capital India Private Limited.
- State Bank of India | Advised in relation to syndicated term loan facility of INR 6.5 billion extended to Aditya Birla Retail Limited & Trinethra Super Retail Private Limited to meet the capex requirements for the expansion of their existing chain of supermarkets and hypermarkets.
- Bank of Baroda | Advised in relation to lease rental discounting facility for an aggregate principal amount of INR 10.5 billion extended to Indiabulls Properties Private Limited against its lease rental receivables relating to ‘One Indiabulls Center’, Mumbai.
- Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. | Advised in relation to the external commercial borrowing by way of an export finance loan availed by (a) Agristo Masa Private Limited (b) Iscon Balaji Foods and (c) Abis Exports (India) Private Limited.
- A multinational bank and financial services company | Advised in connection with the external commercial borrowing of up to US $80 million availed by JSW Steel Limited.
