Josh focuses on digital assets, digital financial market infrastructure, tokenization, AI, quantum computing, and photonics, with an emphasis on securities law and finance matters.
Joshua Ashley Klayman is a widely recognized blockchain and digital assets lawyer in the United States and internationally. She has practiced law for 20 years, focusing on advisory, regulatory, and transactional matters relevant to emerging technology and its financing. Josh advises clients ranging from digital-native companies and regulated businesses to top-tier global financial institutions, established household names, public companies, and foreign governments on a broad range of first-of-their-kind initiatives, industry-shaping transactions, and regulatory developments.
Josh is passionate about emerging technologies and their intersections with law and regulation, including digital assets, quantum computing, AI, and photonics. She regularly works with regulators, lawmakers, founders, and other market participants worldwide, including on strategic U.S. market strategies.
In addition, Josh represents leading market players, including traditional financial institutions, on digital financial market infrastructure projects, stablecoin and other token issuances, and the application of the Uniform Commercial Code to digital assets, custody, liquidation, and global trade. She also is a leading voice advising regulators, legislators, and clients on the business and legal implications of quantum computing and attacks.
Before entering the digital assets space, Josh spent nearly 10 years as a finance, corporate, and securities lawyer, representing lenders, borrowers, and investors in leveraged finance, banking, securities, and other commercial transitions.
For more than a decade, she has written and spoken about blockchain, digital assets, AI, and quantum on television, podcasts, at conferences, and in major news publications. Numerous U.S. and foreign governments and agencies, including the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, have invited Josh to speak at their fintech-focused events and forums. Josh has been recognized by Chambers for blockchain and cryptocurrency law every year since the category’s inception and was named one of the top 12 lawyers globally on the inaugural list.
Prior to joining the firm, Josh served as global leader for the technology sector at a global elite law firm, as well as its U.S. head of fintech, and the head of blockchain and digital assets. Before that, she co-founded and led a blockchain and smart contracts group at another global law firm and launched a boutique blockchain consultancy. Prior to attending law school, Josh was an organizational consultant at a global consulting firm.
Dedicated to the advancement of women and other diverse leaders, Josh is the co-founder of Diversity in Blockchain, Inc. and Collective Future, and she actively sponsors and mentors many people in the legal profession and emerging technology spaces.
