Introduction

Paul Lingard is a senior partner and leader in our energy and resources practice with over two decades' experience in project development, M&A, and the energy transition across international markets.

Paul Lingard has extensive experience guiding multinational companies through complex issues in relation to their international operations across the energy and resources sector, including M&A, project development, trading arrangements and infrastructure access.

For over two decades, Paul has advised on projects at the forefront of structural reform across the energy and resources sector. His broad practice spans all aspects of project structuring, development, regulation and delivery enabling him to bring transferrable knowledge and skills to the forefront in development of new energy projects.

Paul is recognized in the sector and is ranked across all major legal directories including Chambers, Legal 500 and Doyles Guide. Clients have commented that “Paul stands out for expertise across the energy and resources spectrum”.

  • Australian Renewable Energy Hub | Ongoing | Leading the teams acting as project counsel on the Australian Renewable Energy Hub Project, where Ashurst Perkins Coie is advising on all aspects of the development of the 26GW green hydrogen project (~US$50 billion) including the entry and exit of a multinational oil and gas company into the project. This project is the most advanced green hydrogen project in Australia and includes substantial work in connection with network development and offtake in the Pilbara.
  • Horizon Power | Ongoing | Advising on negotiations with the Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation (DAC) in relation to the Aalga Goolil Djarindjin Community Power Project where DAC seeks to finance, develop, own and operate a renewable energy facility.
  • Leading Global Multinational Mining Group | 2025 | Advising on its US$425 million acquisition of a controlling interest in a joint venture with a Chilean state-owned mining company to develop and operate a high-grade lithium project in Chile's Salares Altoandinos.
  • Leading Global Multinational Mining Group | 2025 | Advising on its US$900 million investment into a joint venture with a Chilean state-owned mining company to develop and operate a high-grade lithium project in Chile’s Salar de Maricunga.
  • Global Energy Company | 2024 | Advised a global energy company on complex energy regulatory aspects of its domestic gas and liquids portfolio.
  • Hancock | 2024 | Advising on its AUD$1.1 billion acquisition of Mineral Resource's oil and gas assets in WA including its exploration permits and entering into joint ventures in the Perth and Carnarvon basins.
  • Sembcorp | Tony Damian | 2025 | On its AUD$6.5 billion acquisition of Alinta Energy.
  • Shell | 2020 | On its sale to Global Infrastructure Partners of a 26.25 percent interest in the Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) facilities for US$2.5 billion.
  • TotalEnergies | 2021 | Advising on its synthetic infrastructure arrangement with Global Infrastructure Partners in connection with its 27.5% interest in the Gladstone LNG Project in Queensland for consideration of US$750m.
  • Woodside | Ongoing | Lead Partner on the development of the Sunrise fields with Timor-Leste and Australia, including negotiation of JOA, PSC and other arrangements for the Greater Sunrise LNG Project.
