Melissa is a skilled construction and infrastructure disputes lawyer who combines innovative, commercially focused strategies with a deep commitment to dispute avoidance.

Melissa Yeo works closely with clients undertaking large-scale projects in the technology, oil and gas, road and rail, and energy and resources sectors, helping them to identify and manage risk early so that disputes can be avoided wherever possible. Where disputes do arise, Melissa draws on her extensive experience across arbitration, mediation, and dispute resolution boards to achieve the best possible outcomes efficiently and pragmatically.

Melissa's approach is distinguished by her willingness to think creatively and challenge conventional methods, tailoring her advice to the commercial realities of each project. She is a former director of the Society of Construction Law Australia and has been recognized by the Australian Disputes Centre for her skills in arbitration. Melissa is also listed in Doyle's Guide as a "Recommended" Construction and Infrastructure Litigation Lawyer — Queensland 2026.

  • Energy joint venture | Lead partner | current | Acting on behalf of the joint venture in Supreme Court of Queensland proceedings concerning alleged unpaid license fees and ownership of a Joint User Hydrant facility at a regional airport including compensation claims totaling approximately $60 million.
  • An ASX engineering services contactor | Lead partner | current | Acting on behalf of an ASX engineering services contractor in connection with claims brought by a statutory authority in the Supreme Court of Queensland for alleged breaches of contract and misleading and deceptive conduct under the Australian Consumer Law and in respect of counterclaims totaling in excess of $200 million.
  • Technology company | Lead partner | 2025 | Advised on complex, multi-jurisdictional security of payment disputes, extension of time and variation claims, navigating the interplay between differing State-based legislative regimes to protect the client's contractual and commercial position and advising on and helping to negotiate a commercial settlement avoiding a formal dispute process. 
  • An energy GOC | Partner | 2024 | Advising on extension of time and force majeure claims under a development services agreement and negotiating a commercial settlement with a contractor counter-party resulting in the release of claims and sell back of the project to the counterparty.
  • Energy companies | Lead partner | 2022 | Acted on behalf of energy companies in Supreme Court of Queensland proceedings concerning a dispute under a gas sale agreement which proceedings were successfully resolved.
  • Transport contractor | Partner | 2022 | Advised in connection with an expert determination relating to the transfer of employee entitlements under a Bus Passenger Services Agreement.
  • A solar farm proponent | 2022 | Acted in connection with a ~USD$55 million arbitration (ICC Sydney) arising from delays to the construction, connection and commissioning of one of the largest solar farms in Australia.
  • A construction and engineering joint venture | 2021 | Advised the contractor on delay, variation and defects claims totaling ~$50 million in relation to the construction of a mine in South Australia.
  • LNG project proponents | 2019 | Acted on behalf of LNG Project Proponents in connection with a US ~$2 billion arbitration (SIAC, Singapore) relating to the construction of a gas transmission pipeline, with a focus on quantum meruit and defect claims. 
  • LNG project proponent | 2016 | Acted on behalf of an LNG Project Proponent in connection with a US $1 billion arbitration (ICC, Brisbane) relating to the construction of a gas transmission pipeline on an LNG Project, with a focus on land access, cultural heritage and technical claims.*
