Heather Sager

Partner, Co-Practice Head, Labor & Employment

San Francisco

Introduction

As the U.S. practice head for the firm’s Labor & Employment Group, Heather advises clients on labor issues, employee relations, and statutory and regulatory requirements.

Heather M. Sager regularly litigates complex wage-and-hour matters brought under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and similar state laws, including California's Private Attorneys General Act.

Heather emphasizes proactive risk management to avoid litigation and employs efficient and aggressive strategies to help clients minimize exposure when faced with class, collective, representative, multi-plaintiff, or single-plaintiff lawsuits. As part of due diligence, she also provides risk assessments of potential labor and employment exposure in target entities and conducts policy and procedure audits both pre- and post-merger.

Heather is active in counseling and training employers on workplace harassment prevention and unconscious bias. She regularly conducts investigations into allegations of inappropriate workplace conduct. She also advises clients on the importance of building compliant policies and practices and counsels on leave issues, employee classification, independent contractor status, trade secret protection, and unfair competition.

Heather's practice also includes traditional labor matters. She has helped clients prevail in elections, obtained injunctive relief to stop inappropriate union conduct, defeated organizing campaigns, and appeared before the National Labor Relations Board on many issues.

Heather also served as chair of Ashurst Perkins Coie's San Francisco Pro Bono Committee.
